Cute Kid Moment, & In The Hot Seat!

Today when we got to church, Jude was all excited about being at "This house!" I thought--well, it is God's house! Then he thanked Jason for driving to church!

The other day when I was watching Serena's kids, her 3-year-old and I were the last ones sitting at the lunch table, and I was holding Jabin. Dawson floored me when he asked, "How did the baby get out of your tummy?"

My mind started racing. I know he's a farm kid, but I don't know how deep into this I should go--how much would Serena want me to cover? So at first I tried to pass the buck:

"Maybe you should ask your mommy about that later."

That answer didn't even satisfy me, so I decided to give it another go:

"Have you seen kitties being born?"

After a bit of back-and-forth so I made sure he understood what I meant by "born", I kind of thought he probably hadn't. Then it occured to me: every spring these guys lamb out several hundred ewes. Surely the child had seen at least one of these events!

"Have you seen baby lambs come out of their mommy's tummies?"

He nodded his head that he had.

"It's kind of like that for people too."

That seemed to satisfy him, and I left it at that. Phew! I wasn't expecting to have to deal with that one for a little while longer, and especially not from someone else's kid!

At least he didn't ask me how the baby got in there in the first place!

  1. Too cute about Jude! Did you stifle your laugh at that point and wait for another time?

  2. I must confess--there was no stifling involved. Open giggling, yes! It was too cute! T.

  3. Hahaha!! Jude is a character! As for the other kid, I just would have told him, "I don't know. How do you think it happens?" and then see what he comes up with.

  4. I can totally see you saying that, Ang! I kind of wish I would have thought of it--I'm sure Dawson would have had a thing or two to say that would have brought the house down! :-)
