So What's Wrong With Soda?

Sunday, June 11, 2006

Although I've never been a big fan of soft drinks, these beverages have been effectively banned from my household, for the following reasons:

  • It increases risk of obesity.
  • It contains extremely high levels of sugar, which is bad for you, or aspartame, which is worse.
  • It causes tooth decay and bone density loss. (Due mostly to the amount of sugar it contains.) This also increases the likelihood of broken bones and osteoporosis.
  • It promotes caffeine dependency.

  1. Thanks for your post Talena. I never used to drink pop very often (except for Dr. Pepper on occasion, my guilty pleasure), but in these last few months, I found my resolve to obstain weakening. But after reading your post, my conviction to resist the evils of Soda has been fortified.

  2. I so agree! I am avoiding anything with high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oils.

  3. Ang - Hey, Ang! Thanks for commenting on this one--most people ignore my crazy health blurbs, I think. Anyway, glad that this helped you out. If only your brother would adhere to this, now...

Janet - Thanks for visiting my blog! A fellow craft-aholic--nice to meet you! Yep, those things are nasty. It's so sad that most of the foods on our grocery store shelves are not only "not good" for you, but mostly outright toxic.

Feel welcome to stick around! I would welcome your input!

  4. Just stumbled across your blog - I'm not a big soda drinker either. I usually only have it when I'm out to dinner. We didn't have it in the house growing up so it's just not something I look to buy at the supermarket. I think it's ok everyonce in awhile - just so long as you're not drinking it like it's water! The aspartame thing I'm not too worried about either since I consume it in moderation and it's been studied by the FDA so many times. :D

  5. Anon - Please check out this site. Go to the link on the left about the FDA report. You might change your mind about aspartame being safe some of the time.
