Big Bum

"Humour is perhaps a sense of intellectual perspective: an awareness that some things are really important, others not; and that the two kinds are most oddly jumbled in everyday affairs." - Christopher Morley, Inward Ho

Tonight after supper, as Jason and I were enjoying a bit of post-consumption conversation, Jude excused himself from the table, and then presently came back and made this announcement:

"Mom, Dad! My went poop on the potty without using my hands!"

I laughed as Jason explained to me that this was a big deal for Jude today, that he could balance himself on the toilet seat without using his hands as ballasts.

Then Jude said, "Daddy have a big bum, Daddy no need hands!"

Laughing, Jason and I replied in the affirmative.

"Mommy have big bum, too!"

I hid a smirk, and Jason said, "I'm not going there."

What a wise, wise man I married.

  1. I can see Jude's analytical skills are getting pretty sharp - you should get set for some argumentative behaviour now.

  2. Man! This reminds me of a time when I was really little when I fell into the toilet. It was terrible. Jude had better be careful!

  3. Rohini - OMG. You mean he's going to get more argumentative?!

Jenn - (LOL!) I think I fell in once or twice, too. Jude is usually pretty careful about that, so I think that's why he was so excited about being able to balance.

  4. Hee! That's hilarious! I can totally see and hear Jason saying that.

  5. Hi, Colleen! I was just checking your blog, too! Funny, that.

  6. trHahaha! Leave it to a 3 year old to say stuff like that.

  7. Yesterday at the park, there was a mom and her three-year old daughter. The conversation went something like this...

Kid: No sand. Wannna go there (pointed to other end of the park)

Mom: No, we can't go there.

    Kid: Why?

Mom: Because it's all slushy and muddy

    Kid: Why?

    Mom: Because it just rained.

    Kid: Wanna go there.

Mom: No, play in the sand

    Kid: Why?

    Mom: Ok, let's go then

Rohini - Too funny! And too close to home! I have conversations like that all the time. At 3, they are old enough to make their will known, but not yet mature enough to listen and understand when they are told they can't have what they want. As Jude approaches the 4-year mark, though, we are seeing some vast improvements in his self-control, which is good, very good.

  9. HHAHAHHAHAA...your Jason is a VERY careful person.. hahaha he KNOWS the consequences i see!!

  10. grafx - I'm lucky I married him! Hee!
